Lady Apaches get ready for area round

The Gonzales Lady Apaches return to the area round against the Needville Lady Bluejays Thursday, May 2.

The Lady Apaches have made it the second round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2005 season.

In the bi-district round, the Lady Apaches took on the Wimberley Lady Texans in a best of three-series; both teams fought through all three games, but at the end, Gonzales rallied in game three to secure the bi-district title.

In all three games, the Lady Apaches recorded a combined 21 hits, 15 RBIs and scored 20 runs against Wimberley.

Junior outfielder Sarah Padilla and senior catcher Sydney McCray lead the postseason with four RBIs each; Padilla leads the team with five hits.

Pitching, freshman pitcher Dixie Rae Lester recorded 25 strikeouts in the Wimberley series.

The Needville Lady Blue Jays, winners of District 25-4A, took care of business on other side of the bracket with a 10-0 single elimination game win over the Bay City Lady Blackcats.

The Bluejays recorded seven hits and 10 runs in the win and held Bay City to one hit in the bi-district match.

Needville finished its district with an undefeated 12-0 record; and eight of their 12 district games were shutout victories for Needville.

The Lady Apaches will meet Needville Thursday, May 2 at Caldwell High School for the second round of the 4A UIL Softball playoffs.

First pitch is set for 8 p.m.
