Lady Cardinals lose in state finals

The Shiner St. Paul Lady Cardinals were one quarter away from winning the state championship in girls basketball for the second year in a row. Unfortunately, a 23-7 fourth quarter swing by Lubbock Southcrest Christian was more than enough to knock off St. Paul 45-39.
In the state semifinals, Shiner St. Paul overwhelmed The Woodlands Legacy Prep Christian 72-38 to advance to the state finals.

Shiner St. Paul outscored The Woodlands Legacy Prep Christian 44-11 in the second half to advance to the TAPPS 2A girls basketball state final. Three Lady Cardinals came away with double digit scoring with Grace Irving scoring 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and seven steals. Gracey Novosad had 16 points, four rebounds, 10 assits and six steals. Delynn Pesek added 14 points, two rebounds and two steals. Parker Clay had nine points, nine rebounds, two assists, one block and three steals while Christine Wagner had eight points, two rebounds and four steals.

The Lady Cardinals were up 32-22 headed into the fourth quarter before Lubbock Southcrest Christian outscored St. Paul 23-7 to win the TAPPS 2A championship.
Leading the scoring for St. Paul was Gracey Novosad who had 14 points, seven rebounds, four assists, one block and four steals. Grace Irvin added 13 points with eight rebounds, one assist and three steals. The Lady Cardinals were a combined 16-of-63 from the field, shooting 1-of-14 from three. Lubbock Southcrest was a bit more efficient, shooting 15-of-35 from the field, including going 13-of-15 from the free-throw line.
