Leonard Walter Hagens

Leonard Walter Hagens, 91, passed away Thursday, May 11. He was born Oct. 17, 1925 in Yoakum to the late Walter G. and Elsa Schoenfeld Hagens.

He served in the United States Navy. He married June Rose Slovak on September 19, 1948. He was a member of American Legion Post 201, Hermann Sons Lodge #90 and was a lifetime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He worked for 33 years with Department of Transportation, as a signal light technician and took great pleasure in retirement, ranching and enjoying his family.

Survivors are his wife of 68 years, June Hagens of Yoakum, daughters Janet (Lee) Baker of Gonzales and Susan (Robert) Motal of Shiner, six grandchildren, Bradley Baker, Kimberlee Brown, Holly Danz, Angela Motal, Jennifer Motal and Bobby Motal, five great-grandchildren, Kayla Autry, Kalli Baker, Madelynn Brown, Hagen Brown and Brody Danz.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Anna Mae Welhausen; brother, Wilbert Hagens.

Visitation 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 14 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home.

Funeral Services were at 10 a.m., Monday, May 15 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Alsen Wenzel officiating. Burial followed at Hermann Sons Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bradley Baker, Tinker Brown, Bradley Danz, David Hensley, Michael Welhausen, Wilfred Schoenfeld and Leslie Prause.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hermann Sons Cemetery Assn., Holy Cross Lutheran Church or Accolade Hospice.
