GONZALES — Two local people were jailed after police said they broke into Mr. Taco and stole over $1,800 in cash.

At 3:47 a.m. Oct. 12, Officer Victor Izaguirre was dispatched to Mr. Taco at 726 E. Sarah Dewitt Drive in reference to a reported burglary of a building, Capt. Allen Taylor said.

Police said that sometime between the hours of 9:50 p.m. and 3:30 a.m., suspects persons broke into the restaurant, taking $1,853 in cash, possibly liquor, and credit card receipts.

Officers reviewed video footage of a man approximately 5’5”, 150 lbs., dressed in dark-colored clothes, Taylor said.

At 8:44 a.m. Oct. 13, Taylor and Investigator Jason Montoya arrived on the scene to conduct the investigation, at which time they were told that the man resembled a former Mr. Taco employee. He was identified as Juan Hernandez, 17, of Gonzales.

“Police reviewed Hernandez’s Facebook page and determined that he could be the suspect wearing the dark clothes,” Taylor said. “He was located at approximately 10:03 a.m. this date and was subsequently arrested and charged with burglary of a building.”

Also arrested was Christian Isaiah Stewart, 17, also of Gonzales. Stewart was also charged with burglary of building.

Taylor said police recovered $1,548 of the reported missing currency, along with one bottle of liquor. Both suspects were interviewed and taken to Gonzales County Jail.
