GONZALES — A local man ended up in county jail last week after police said he pushed his wife down and pinned his mother-in-law against the wall.

At 11:23 p.m. Dec. 15, Officer Ryan Salles was dispatched to the 1700 block of College St. in reference to a disturbance in progress, Capt. Allen Taylor reported. Upon arrival the officer identified the suspect as John Manuel Leal Jr., 33, of Gonzales. Ryan spoke with the two victims — Leal’s wife and mother-in-law — and learned from the spouse that Leal had walked into the house and shoved her to the floor.

The other victim said that when she tried to intervene Leal pinned her up against the wall. Police arrested Leal and charged him with two counts of assault. He was taken to Gonzales County Jail.

At 10:26 p.m. Dec. 19, Officer Salles was dispatched to the Valero station in the 300 block of Sarah DeWwitt in reference to a black Buick LeSabre parked at the gas pumps playing loud music, and that one of the vehicle’s occupants was littering. Upon arrival, Salles identified the driver as Joseph James Ford, 22, of Austin. While looking on the ground the officer found a brown leafy substance believed to be marijuana mixed with tobacco. Police also found a bag of marijuana in Ford’s pants pocket.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a pill bottle containing several white pills believed to be Oxycodone.

Ford was taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 1.

At 7:13 p.m. Dec. 12, Officer Alberto Carrera was dispatched to the first entrance to the trailer park in the 2400 block of Church St. in reference to a reckless driver who had driven off the roadway. Upon arrival, Carrera spoke with the caller, then walked to Lot 85 in the trailer park and found the vehicle. He identified the driver as Gustavo Munguia Rubio, 26, of Harwood.

Carrera noticed Rubio appeared to be intoxicated and had vomited on his shirt. He conducted a field sobriety test that indicated Rubio was drunk. After providing a blood sample at Gonzales Memorial Hospital Rubio was taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with driving while intoxicated.
