Marilyn Claire (Pat) Jobe Morgan Thompson

Marilyn Claire (Pat) Jobe Morgan Thompson was born October 25, 1923 in Harwood, Texas the daughter of Emerson Ray and Margaret (Maggie) Taylor Jobe, natives of Harwood and Guadalupe County, respectively.

She attended the Harwood schools graduating in the class of 1941. She attended Southwest Texas State Teachers College, graduating in 1944. She married Cena S. Morgan Jr. in 1944. Together they had two children: Jack Raymond Morgan and Janet Alicen Shiner. Cena preceded her in death in 1979. In 1987, she married Woodrow B. Thompson. He preceded her in death in 2007.

Pat taught school for 15 years in Lolita, Refugio, and Corpus Christi, Texas. She moved back to Gonzales County in 1965. In 1969, she opened the Merle Norman Cosmetic Studio in Gonzales, Texas, which was successful for many decades. She loved and studied music all her active life. She sang in choirs for over 50 years. She also played the piano and organ for many church services.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gonzales. She was a former member of the Music Study Club of Gonzales, the Wesleyan Circle and Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church of Gonzales and served as a volunteer in the Gonzales Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Pat enjoyed reading, traveling, genealogy, shopping, caring for her pets and plants, and visiting family members and friends. She loved her two children very much and enjoyed each grandchild as they arrived one by one. She felt very proud to have six great-grandchildren to love and adore also.

Pat is survived by her adoring family, daughter, Pat Shiner, son, Jack Morgan (Mary Gayle), grandchildren, Leslie Dabney (David), Ray Morgan, (Heather), Alicen Kyser (Jason), Jayme Jecker (Scott), great-grandchildren, Arden and Tess Dabney, Cora and Charlie Morgan, and Beau and Katie Jecker.  She was preceded in death by her husbands and parents.

Graveside services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, April 13, 2024 in the Harwood Cemetery with Dr. Matt Pennington officiating.
