Mayoral election voter registration deadline April 4

Gonzales County Voter Registrar Crystal Cedillo wants to remind voters that the final day to register to vote in the May 4 Gonzales mayoral election is April 4. All address changes and new voter registrations must be received prior to that date in order to be eligible to vote.

If voters miss this deadline, they can only vote a provisional ballot. Traditionally, these ballots are counted days later only after proper paperwork is provided by the voter, which has to be authenticated. Also, any outstanding provisional ballots can hold up the outcome of an election in a tight race.

Early voting is set to begin April 22 with the last day of early voting on April 30. The Gonzales County tax office will be open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on April 22, 23, 25, 29, and 30 for extended voting hours.
