Peggy Jean Maloch

Peggy Jean Maloch, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024. She was born on December 16, 1933, to Benjamin Franklin Kelso and Mattie Blundell Kelso in Caldwell County. 

She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Waelder High School in 1952.  She was married that same year to her husband who passed away in 1959.  She lived in Goliad for a while where she had one son, Jerry Krueger.  Peggy returned to her childhood home in Gonzales County where she began working for a local CPA.  She then started working at Birdie’s Café in Gonzales for many years until she purchased the café from Birdie and became the new official owner from 1962 to 1975.  She eventually sold the café to work as a dispatcher where she worked for 18 years. Then she went to work in Lavaca County for two years.  She came back to   Gonzales in 1992, during this time, Peggy was a dispatcher, records clerk, and a supervising officer at the Gonzales Police Department.  She Retired after 40 years on March 31, 2021.

Peggy enjoyed spending time with family, especially her weekend trips with her son Jerry when he was younger, barbequing, cooking, baking pies, traveling, and spending time with her Chihuahua Peewee.  She also loved the holidays and attending family reunions.

Peggy was strong in her faith with the Lord.  She loved going to Church and singing. 

She was a motherly presence to many in the police force.  Momma Peggy will always be remembered by the love and affection she showed to her family, friends, and her extended police family.

Peggy is survived by her son, Jerry, and wife Christie Krueger of Gonzales.  Her brother Jim Kelso, wife Loretta and sister, Erna Grantham.  Her grandchildren, Brooke of San Marcos, Jeremy, and Morgan of Brock, great–grandchildren, Madilyn, Maddox, Joslyn, and Jett, extended family, and numerous friends. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Mattie Kelso.  Her brothers David Kelso and Edgar Lee Kelso.  Her sisters, Edella McCarty, Mildred Phelps, Lola Raye Martin, Marie White, and Pauline Craven.

The family will receive friends from 9 am to 10 am Thursday, January 18, 2024 in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 10 am in Seydler-Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Todd Craven officiating. Interment will follow in Thompsonville Cemetery. Pallbearers: Jeremy Krueger, Scotty Martin, Randy Martin, Tim Crow, Kevin Kelso, and Jim Pearce. Honorary pallbearers: Curtis Parsley, Howard Brothers, Harry White, Jim Kelso, and the City of Gonzales Police Department. In lieu of flowers remembrance memorials can be made to the Harwood Baptist Church or the Thompsonville Cemetery.
