Sales tax numbers mixed across county

Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar announced last week he will send cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts $761 million in local sales tax allocations for December, 9.5 percent more than in December 2017. These allocations are based on sales made in October by businesses that report tax monthly.

Gonzales County businesses are doing good, with $205,564.01 total being returned this month. That's a 4.59 percent increase over last year's numbers, and brings a yearly total to $2,053,844.48. But historically, that grand total is down by 3.87 percent from last year's haul.

By city, Gonzales has brought in $238,923.28 for the reporting period, a 11.33 percent rise over 2017 numbers. And for the year, the city is up 16.07 percent with $2,716,209.66.

Waelder saw a healthy October percentage-wise, with a 11.44 increase over last year. They brought in $3,059.58 in taxes, with a yearly total of $47,488.25. Still, they are off by 2017's mark, down by 4.76 percent.

Nixon brought in a hefty $31,083.97, but that's nothing compared to last October when the state tallied over $76,000 for the city. That represents a 59.46 percent decline in revenues. But Nixon is still up over last year's total by 15.56 percent, or $372,266.08.

Meanwhile, Smiley dipped 2.58 percent to $1,285.59. For the year, the small town has a balance of $19,475.52, down 9.35 percent.
