GONZALES – A Seguin man was arrested after police said he was caught driving drunk with marijuana in his car.

At 4 a.m. Nov. 5, Officer Alberto Carrera noticed a vehicle driving with a defective tail light in the 1700 block of 90A, and pulled the vehicle over, Capt. Allen Taylor said. The officer identified two people in the car – one as Torrey Jaron Fields, 24, of Seguin. While speaking with Fields the officer could smell alcohol on his breath, Taylor said.

While searching the car officers noticed burnt marijuana ashes in the ashtray, and Fields admitted to having smoked the drug earlier. Officers conducted a field sobriety test on Fields, which indicated he was too intoxicated to drive. Fields also admitted to having marijuana in his possession.

Officers also found a bottle of chemical spray used to mask the odor of marijuana, Taylor said.

Fields was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail, and was charged with driving while intoxicated and tampering with evidence.
