BASKETBALL: Lady Apaches lose heartbreaker to Yoakum

The Gonzales Lady Apaches came back from an eight-point halftime deficit to take a four-point fourth period lead over the Yoakum Lady Bulldogs. However, the visitors scored the last six points of the game to eke out a 48-46 over Gonzales.

Yoakum (4-1) held a 26-18 lead at the break, but the Lady Apaches (3-7) outscored their guests, 15-9, in the third period to narrow the margin to 35-33.

The Lady Bulldogs built up a 38-33 lead in the final quarter, but Gonzales fought back to tie it at 40-40 and then took a 46-42 lead. Unfortunately, the Lady Apaches wouldn’t score again and Yoakum tied the game and then hit a pair of free throws to seal the victory.

Gonzales will play Karnes City and Yorktown on Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Karnes City tournament.
