DeWitt’s Colony Association will celebrate Gonzales heritage with a symposium on Oct. 2-4 to discuss the founding of DeWitt’s Colony in 1825 (200th anniversary) and the Come and Take It Battle of 1835 (190th anniversary).
The event will be held at the Stockton Building, 609 Saint Lawrence St., Gonzales.
On Thursday, Oct. 2, historian-singer-songwriter Fletcher Clark will speak about The Gonzales Legacy at 7 p.m.
Then, on Friday, Oct. 3, will be the Gonzales Heritage Symposium — “On the Road to Revolution” — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a boxed lunch for $15 due at registration. Symposium topics include:
• The Founding of DeWitt’s Colony
• Gonzales: The Capital of DeWitt’s Colony
• The “First Shot” Battle and the Men Who Defended Gonzales
• Gonzales: The Lexington of Texas & America 250
• Engaging Youth: The Young Texians
On Saturday, Oct. 4, the DeWitt’s Colony Trading Post will be open in the front lobby from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
