Down by the Guadalupe: A celebration of history, hope and heroes

Posted

Come and Take It Dance proudly presents Down by the Guadalupe, an original ballet performance honoring 200 years of Gonzales history. This special production will take place at the historic Crystal Theatre on Saturday, June 7 at noon and 7 p.m., and Sunday, June 8 at 2 p.m.

Set along the banks of the Guadalupe River, this original work uses the power of dance to tell stories of resilience, courage, and community — echoing the spirit that has defined Gonzales for two centuries. Audiences will journey through time as dancers bring key moments of local history to life with heart and artistry.

Each performance will open with a brief historical introduction from local historian Vicki Frenzel, providing valuable context that connects each act to the people and events that shaped Gonzales. These narratives ground the performance in local heritage and deepen its emotional resonance.

Featured in this year’s production are returning guest artists Ariana Dewing and Brandon Forrest, portraying the symbolic roles of Hope and Heroes. Their stirring performances offer both inspiration and professionalism, highlighting the themes that have carried the people of Gonzales through generations.

This production is proudly presented by Come and Take It Dance, with creative support from its nonprofit arm, Gonzales Youth Ballet. Showcasing a talented cast of local youth dancers, the performance is crafted to inspire and connect with audiences of all backgrounds — whether you're a seasoned arts enthusiast or experiencing ballet for the first time.

With a compelling blend of historical storytelling and artistic excellence, Down by the Guadalupe invites audiences to reflect, celebrate, and take pride in the shared legacy of Gonzales.

Tickets are available now at www.comeandtakeitdance.com. Seating is limited and advance purchase is recommended.
