‘Echoes from the Alamo’ brings Texas history to life

History will come alive as Gonzales remembers the Alamo, the Runaway Scrape and the fight for Texas Independence with a month of activities being called “Echoes from the Alamo.”

The events are being co-sponsored and presented by Gonzales Chapter, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Gonzales Chapter No. 29 of the Sons of the Republic of Texas, The Crystal Theatre, Tour Gonzales and the City of Gonzales.

They include:

• 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27

Travis' Plea: A Call To Courage

Location: Texas Heroes Square in Gonzales, Texas

Join us for a stirring reading of Colonel William B. Travis's legendary "Victory or Death" letter and a reenactment by the Crystal Theatre's Young Texians, honoring the 32 Alamo defenders that leave on horseback!

 

• 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1

The Immortal 32 Arrive!

Location: The Alamo Plaza in San Antonio, Texas

Honor the 32 men from Gonzales, the Alamo's only reinforcements, at this unique event. The Gonzales Crystal Theater's Young Texians, and descendants of these 1836 heroes.

• 12:30 p.m. Sunday, March 2

A Toast to Texas Independence

Location: Texas Heroes Square in Gonzales, Texas

Enjoy a sweet tea toast when you hear the 1 p.m. siren/bells and raise your glass for Texas! Complimentary glass, old-fashioned outdoor games, music and food trucks available at 12:30 p.m.

Dawn At The Alamo

Location: The Alamo Plaza in San Antonio, Texas

Before dawn, this ceremony commemorates the Alamo Defenders as local SRT and DRT members lay a wreath for the Immortal 32.

Honoring the Immortal 32

Location: Gonzales Memorial Museum in Gonzales, Texas

Join for a moving Commemorative Ceremony, Roll Call and performance by the Young Texians at the

Memorial Museum, honoring Texas heroes.

Night at the Museum

Location: Gonzales Memorial Museum in Gonzales, Texas

Bring your family and a lawn blanket or chair to view The Alamo on the big screen!

After the tour, experience the story of the Runaway Scrape with a captivating performance including Susanna's return to Gonzales and her tale of the fall of the Alamo. Join the Runaway Scrape "Run, Run, Run Away!" by the Young Texians.
