GISD to interview six candidates for superintendent

Posted

Gonzales ISD trustees will interview six applicants for the superintendent position during meetings next week.

School board members met in special session Tuesday and spent the majority of the time in executive session reviewing applications for the district’s next chief executive as well as discussing with consultants from the Texas Association of School Boards how to proceed with their search.

Meetings are scheduled to interview candidates at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, April 25-27. The board will then decide during their April 27 meeting how many applicants will be granted a second round interview. Those interviews will be scheduled at that time.

Former GISD superintendent John Schumacher retired in February after nearly three years with Gonzales ISD and 39 years in public eduction. His last official day with the district will be June 30 so he can help with transition of leadership.

Schumacher’s predecessor, Dr. Kimberly Strozier, has been serving as interim superintendent since March 1. Strozier was superintendent of GISD from 2010 to 2019.
