Gonzales County will discuss appointing interim sheriff

Determining the procedures for an interim sheriff and the possible creation of an elections administrator position are on the agenda for the next Gonzales Count Commissioners Court meeting, to be held at 9 a.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the Gonzales County Courthouse, 414 St. Joseph St., Gonzales.

Commissioners will meet in executive session with the county attorney, first assistant county attorney and auditor to determine how to appoint an interim sheriff to succeed the late Sheriff Robert Ynclan, who died last week after battling COVID-19.

It is possible an interim sheriff could be appointed at Monday’s regular meeting. The department does have a chain of command in place with the chief deputy position currently held by Chris Aviles holding the second-highest spot of authority in the department behind the sheriff.

Commissioners will also hear a report from the Rancho Nixon Historical Association.
