The Gonzales varsity girls soccer team picked up its first district victory Tuesday, defeating Luling 2–1 on the road in its second district match of the season.
Friday’s home contest against San Antonio John F. Kennedy marked Gonzales’ district opener, and the Apaches followed it with an early road test against Luling. Gonzales responded with a one-goal win to even its district record at 1–1 as district play continues to unfold.
Tuesday’s matchup featured two teams looking to establish position in the early portion of the district schedule. Gonzales was able to do enough to secure the victory in a competitive contest, finishing with the narrow margin on the road.
With only two district matches completed, the Apaches sit in the middle of the district standings as several weeks of district play remain.
Gonzales will now return home for its next three matches, beginning with a district contest against La Vernia on Jan. 30, followed by a non-district matchup with Navarro on Jan. 31 and another district game against San Antonio Memorial on Feb. 3.
