Gonzales High School One Act Play advanced to the bi-district level of competition at the district OAP contest at La Vernia High School on Friday, Feb. 28.

Five members of the OPA cast and crew were honored with awards as well. River Van Kirk and Ainsley Pope were named All-Star Cast, while Emily Hull and Aubree Tovar were named Honorable Mention All-Star Cast. Nicholas Gonzales was named All-Star Tech.

Their competition piece, “David’s Mother,” written by Bob Randall, is a tragically beautiful exploration of love, sacrifice, and the complexities of family.

Sally, a single mother, is devoted to her nonverbal autistic son, David, shaping her entire life around his care. But as her relationships with others begin to fray, Sally faces difficult questions about the cost of her choices and what the future holds for both her and David.

Other cast and crew include Autumn Hataway, Luhana Wells, Anahi Meza, Austin Valenta, Brett Needham, Alejandro Ordonez, Lily Reeves, Rocco Mastronadi, and Gavin Lekgega. The show is directed by Madi Pope and Lisa Kahanek.

The show now advances to the bi-district level at Somerset ISD on Wednesday, March 26.
