Candidates for Gonzales mayor and Gonzales ISD District 1 and District 2 trustee will answer questions about their qualifications and positions on important issues at a forum sponsored by the Gonzales Inquirer.
The event will be held Thursday, March 27, at the American Legion Post No. 40 in Gonzales, which will be cosponsoring the event. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with a 7 p.m. start.
Admission is free. While seating will be limited, the Inquirer will also livestream the event on its Facebook page.
Candidates for the mayor and school board races will introduce themselves and then be asked a series of questions by the moderator with each being given a minute to respond. The candidates will then give a brief closing statement.
The candidate forum is not a debate and candidates will not address each other, but instead will address the audience when giving their answers. The event is being held as a friendly exercise in the political process and as a way for voters to get to know those who wish to serve the community in these elected positions.
Questions will be asked by publisher Lew K. Cohn as the moderator without giving any questions to the candidates in advance. If an audience member has a question they would like to see asked in advance of BOTH candidates in a race, email it to publisher@gonzalesinquirer.com.
We do not guarantee your question will be asked but will give consideration to all fair and equitable questions that are not personal attacks or attempts to embarrass or ambush any candidates.
District 4 Council member Ronda Miller will be given three minutes to discuss her recall election and the Inquirer will allow three minutes for an organizer of the petition to address it as well. No questions will be asked during that portion of the forum.
Candidates, please let us know if you can attend by emailing publisher@gonzalesinquirer.com.
