Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

I am writing this letter for the people that have registered to participate in these upcoming elections.Serving as an elected official is often referred to as a thankless task were you'll either be praised for doing the right thing or blamed for doing the wrong thing. In Gonzales you can expect to receive new friend requests on social media from leaders of various groups, organizations & corporations that are pledging their support. You will be flattered, praised,& given advice from certain people that will play a part in the influence campaign they hope to hold over you if you are elected. The problem with our elected officials is they can see everything that's wrong before they receive the position but once they're elected they can no longer see what they were able to before.I encourage anyone that has it in their heart to serve to do it for the right reasons not for the position, power,or spotlight but for the people who supported & trusted you enough to vote for you. In Gonzales our elected officials sometimes forget they were elected to serve the interests of the people located throughout the districts of Gonzales & not the government or the various groups in our town.If it's in your heart to serve make sure it's to create the change you believe in & for what's best for the people of Gonzales because believe me when I say the people know who's in your ear by the way you vote.If you happen to win without the experience of various group & organization leaders don't worry those people will be contacting you after you're sworn in because everybody loves a winner.
