GONZALES – A local man was jailed after police said they caught him with narcotics, weed and driving without a license.

At 2:15 a.m. April 8, Officer Mark Hastings saw a vehicle traveling north in the 1900 block of Church St. turn without signaling, Capt. Allen Taylor said. The officer pulled the driver over and identified him as Anthony Vaness Erskine, 47, of Gonzales.

A background check on Erskine revealed his driver’s license was invalid, and during questioning Erskine told officers he had a knife and a usable amount of marijuana in his boot. Taylor said officers found the items in his boot and placed him under arrest.

A search of the car led to the discovery of unknown-type pills and drug paraphernalia. In Erskine's wallet police found a small bag containing a crystal-like substance believed to be meth, Taylor said.

Erskine was arrested and taken to Gonzales County Jail. He is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of dangerous drugs, driving while license invalid and possession of a controlled substance.
