Mullet over at Come and Take It!

Come and Take It 2022 is introducing the Mullet Contest, with three age divisions, which will be held at the Come and Take It Celebration event. Age divisions are under 1–10 years old; 11-18; and 19 and older.

It is not mandatory to pre-register for the contest entry, however for those who wish to compete for the People’s Choice portion of this competition pre-registration is required. Competition includes a $20 entry fee, per mullet. Entries for the contest (pre-registration) must be completed between September 19-27, at the Gonzales Chamber of Commerce.

No fake hair, wigs, extensions or artificial hair will be accepted for the competition event and all mullets must be grown by the participant, themselves. Entries during the event will be taken at the Come and Take It merchandise booth, located inside the food tent. Walk-up entries will not be eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Registrations will close at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1 with prizes awarded to Grand Champion and Reserve Champion for each age division as well as some honorable mention awards given at the judges’ discretion. Showmanship will be one of the award categories, so dress to impress!

The People’s Choice Award portion of the contest requires that contestants submit “Glamour” shots of their mullet by 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 27. These pictures should include 4 angles of the mullet being considered (front, back, left and right angles). These photos will be shared to the Come and Take It Celebration Facebook page. Votes will then be calculated based on the number of likes each image receives.

The actual People’s Choice portion of the contest ends Saturday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m., with contestants meeting at the west side of the main stage at 5:30 p.m., with follow up announcements of winners to be announced by the event emcee. At that time the contestants will individually walk in front of the stage for judging.

After all entered mullets have been judges the scores will be tabulated with the championship mullet coronation set to begin promptly after the votes have been counted.

Entry pictures, or “glamour shots,” may be emailed to no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27.
