Nixon-Smiley CISD approves salary compensation plan

Nixon-Smiley Consolidated ISD trustees voted last month to approve a new salary compensation program which increases salaries for teachers with five or more years experience by $8,000 per year and ups teacher salary by $4,000 per year for those with three to four years experience.

Starting teachers will receive a base salary of $49,600 plus a $4,000 classroom teacher stipend for a total starting salary of $53,600. This payscale is based on 10-month employment for 187 days during the 2025-2026 school year.

All other staff will receive a four percent actual raise and the district will increase the health insurance contribution for each employee to $500 per month.

House Bill 2, approved by the Legislature earlier this year and signed into law by Gov. Greg Abbott, provided specific funding for teachers with three or more years of creditable service and some additional funding for other staff. NSCISD continues to maintain market-competitive rates for all employees.

TEA defines a classroom teacher for Teacher Retention Allotment purposes as a person who is employed by a school system and who, not less than an average of four hours each day, teaches in an academic instructional setting or a career and technology instructional setting and who works in a role that would typically require a SBEC teaching certification.

Teacher stipends approved include a $1,000 per semester attendance stipend; a $1,000 per semester stakeholder engagement stipend; and additional stipends for special education, HS math/science, coaching, ESL and UIL.

Staff will also continue to receive a 457 Savings match, short-term disability and basic life with AD&D offerings as well as benefits.
