Nixon-Smiley CISD, Lions Club host ‘Trunk or Treat’

Posted

Nixon-Smiley CISD and the Nixon Lions Club are hosting the annual “Trunk or Treat” on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Nixon-Smiley High School Gym parking lot

This local event began with the Nixon Centennial Celebration in 2006 as a safe, family-oriented alternative to the traditional “Trick or Treat.”

It is intended to be a time for the community and businesses to come together for a mini-carnival, complete with games, train rides, costume contests, and prizes. This event is intended to be free to local children. Everyone will be provided a free hot dog, chips and a drink. In previous years as many as 450-500 children have attended.

Businesses are being asked by Superintendent Jeff VanAuken to set up a smalle game booth or giveaway table to promote their business or to pass out treats to children. Businesses may display their business name, pass out cards, give away items with their logo or just hand out snacks, candies, pencils or other trinkets — as long as it remains free to those attending. There are to be no bake sales or fundraiser activities at this event.

Parking for the businesses will be behind the parking lot on the road between the track and practice field. The trunks will enter and exit at the baseball field entrance. As in years past, there will be a “trunk decorating contest” for those who would like to participate, with judging at 6:30 p.m.

To participate in this fun event, please contact Cindy Lott at 830-582-1536, ext. 102 or email lottcj@nixonsmiley.net.
