Primary early voting begins Tuesday, Feb. 18

Early voting for the Texas Republican and Democratic primary elections commences next Tuesday, Feb. 18 and will continue to Feb. 28. Early voting is split between three polling locations: the Randle-Rather Building in Gonzales, the City of Nixon Building and the City of Waelder Building.

Unlike election day, early voters are not bound by their designated precincts and can vote anywhere in county. All three early voting polling locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday during that timeframe. The Randle-Rather location will also be open Saturday Feb. 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be more polling locations added for election day when voters must vote in precinct, but for early voting there are only the three. Primary election day is March 2.

Texas has joint primaries, meaning the two-party primaries are held together on the same day, but voters must specify which one they would like to participate in. The primaries determine who will be the candidate from the two major parties for the general election in May. There will be federal, statewide and countywide seats on the primary ballots.

The Randle-Rather Building is located at 427 Saint George St. Gonzales, Texas; the City of Nixon Building is at 100 W. 3rd St. Nixon, Texas and the City of Waelder Building is 300 Hwy 90 West, Waelder, Texas.
