Some major changes have taken place at Randolph-Brooks Federal Credit Union in Gonzales.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week to note the changes, which include a larger lobby and, most impressively, technological advances which will help with customer service and convenience.

"It's great to bring new technology," said Natalie Tate, public relations officer for RBFCU.

Another major change to help customers is longer hours of operation. The branch, located on Sarah DeWitt Drive by Wal-Mart, will now be open Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. They are also open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

"We hope the extended hours will help our business customers," said Ralph Rodriguez, business development coordinator for RBFCU.

Another interesting feature which has been added is that customers can now scan in checks at their office or home and use the internet to make electronic deposits.

In the future, Tate said customers will be able to take photos of checks and email them to the bank for deposits.

"Customer service," said Tate is what they are working to improve.

Part of the change also includes the drive-through area. There are two drive-through lanes and now those lanes feature two-way conferencing to provide a more personalized feel for customers. Video screens allow customers to talk with and see the credit union employees as they make transactions.

On the inside of the bank, the lobby has been renovated and made larger and more comfortable. An office has been added so members can meet privately with branch staff and there is also a NetBranch desk for self-service.

"With our additional branch renovations, members will be able to conduct business more quickly and more comfortable," said Tate.

A digital media wall has also been added to the Gonzales branch, which means customers can review the most up-to-date rates which conducting business at the branch.

Rodriguez said he has been pleased with the progress made in Gonzales. He said the branch has steadily grown and continues to attract new customers.

In fact, he said just about everyone is eligible to become a member of the credit union. He said there are 1,600 ways to join. That includes where you live, where you work, the church you belong to, organizations where you are a member and many, many more.

"We find a way," said Rodriguez.

He said local businesses and organizations are encouraged to seek membership in the credit union.

Rodriguez said he has also been impressed with how the people in Gonzales have responded to have a RBFCU branch in town.

"Excellent," he said. "They have an open heart and it's so easy to work with them."

He also complimented the chamber and city for being cooperative in welcoming them to this area.

"Everybody has been very loyal," he said.

RBFCU, as a company, has grown from less than $20 million in business loans in 2004 to more than $121 million as of June of this year. Branches are located in Wilson, Gonzales and Caldwell counties; San Marcos, Seguin and parts of Kerrville; three geographic areas of Austin and four geographic areas of San Antonio.

There are currently 31 branches located in south central Texas with three under construction and four planned for 2010.

As a company, RBFCU ranks as the top-rated credit union with over $2 billion in assets in the state of Texas and fourth in the country.
