A ceremonial shovel of dirt is turned to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Synergos facility that will be built on Stieren Road in Gonzales and bring up to 140 new jobs to the community. Present were ex-pats Tom, Mune and Masa; Jeff Rogers, vice president of expansion for Synergos; Hideki Fujisawa-san, director and primary executive officer of Asahi Kasei Homes; Kensuke Sakai-san, CFO of Asahi Kasei Homes; Mayor Steve Sucher; Fumitoshi Kawabata-san, CEO of Asahi Kasei Homes; County Judge Pat Davis; Ryan Lee, president of the Gonzales Economic Development Corporation; Joey Evans, TNW director of business support & development; Kristi Herbst, chief strategy officer of Synergos; City Manager Tim Crow; and Susan Sankey, GEDC executive director.

Gonzales city, county and economic development officials met with representatives from Synergos and TXGN Railway Wednesday, Jan. 15, for a groundbreaking at the 28-acre site where a new structural building material operation will be built off Stieren Road. Honored visitors from Japan included Fumitoshi Kawabata-san, CEO of Asahi Kasei Homes; Kensuke Sakai-san, CFO of Asahi Kasei Homes; Hideki Fujisawa-san, director and primary executive officer of Asahi Kasei Homes; as well as five ex-patriate visitors who assisted with the visit. Gifts were exchanged with Kawabata-san, including Mayor Steve Sucher gifting him with a Come and Take It pin and County Judge Pat Davis giving him a Come and Take It flag that he will proudly fly at his corporate headquarters as Kawabata-san loves Texas history, especially the Alamo, citing the John Wayne film as one of his all-time favorites.
