Unemployment in Gonzales County increased to 3.8 percent in July 2025, up 0.1 percent from the 3.7 percent recorded for June 2025, with the county coming in as the third-lowest of all seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for July 2025 was at 4.1 percent, lower than the state average of 4.2 percent. This represented a total of 3,642 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 89,223 people. This represents an increase of 215 people in the labor force and 187 more individuals claiming unemployment.
The only counties reporting in lower than Gonzales County are Lavaca County, which had a region-low 3.1 percent unemployment rate, followed by Calhoun County at 3.7 percent. Next was Gonzales County at 3.8 percent, followed by both Jackson County and Victoria County at 4.3 percent, Goliad County at 4.7 percent and DeWitt County coming in at the highest rate with 4.9 percent.
For July 2025, there were 331 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 8,724 with 8,393reported as employed. In June 2025, there were 321 people seeking work in Gonzales County out of an employment force of 8,628 for a total unemployment rate of 3.7 percent. There were 8,307 people reported as employed.
In July 2024, Gonzales County had an unemployment rate of 4.2 percent as there were 370 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 8,803 with 8,433 reported as employed. Unemployment has not been below 3 percent in Gonzales County since December 2022, when it was 2.7 percent. Unemployment rates since July 2023 for Gonzales County are:
