Gonzales County track teams compete at regionals

The Gonzales Apaches, Nixon-Smiley Mustangs and Waelder Wildcats all traveled to their respective regional meets Friday, April 19.

--GONZALES—

The Gonzales track teams traveled the Kingsville for the 4A Regional meet, and all the athletes finished in the top 15.

Senior Tiana Smith finished sixth overall in the 100 meter dash and junior Jayda Glass finished fourth in the 400 meter dash.

Junior Jermain Upshaw finished sixth place in the discus throwing competition and senior Davonte Smith finished 11th place in the 100 meter dash.

Tiana Smith, Jayda Glass, Macy Pena and Kaylyn Gonzales competed in the 4x100 meter relay and finished seventh place in the finals.

Seniors Malory Clack and Macy Sample finished strong in their respective field events; Clack finished eighth in the shot put and Sample finished 10th in the discus and 15th in the shot put.

--NIXON-SMILEY—

Nixon-Smiley had one regional qualifier for the meet in Seguin; senior Luke Moses competed in the 110 meter hurdles in the 3A Regional meet.

Moses finished seventh place in the race.

--WAELDER—

Waelder traveled to Jourdanton for the 1A Region IV track and field meet.

The Wildcats had one regional qualifier to compete at the meet; junior Johnny Guitierrez finished 11th place in the 3200 meter race.
