Main Street to host city-wide garage sale

GONZALES — Is your closet cluttered? Does your garage hold everything except the car? Is your attic attacking?

It is time to make some room! Gonzales Main Street Association is set to host the first-ever City Wide Garage Sale.

"This is a great way to turn your 'trash' into another's 'treasure,'" Main Street board member Johnnie Edwards said. "This is also a great event to draw people downtown to enjoy our wonderful shops and delicious restaurants."

In conjunction with the City Wide Garage Sale some downtown merchants will be hosting sidewalk sales.

Event Coordinator Shelli Van Kirk said this is Main Street's first go at an event like this, but she and the association are looking forward to making this an annual event and even coordinating it with annual clean-up events.

For just $10 your at-home garage or yard sale will be listed on the official City Wide Garage Sale map, or you may rent $10 display spaces – up to three per person – on Confederate Square.

The last day to get on the map is Tuesday, May 2. Spaces will be rented until they are gone.

"The set-up option on the square not only gives sellers a downtown 'storefront', it also allows people who live outside of the city limits to participate," Edwards said.

Edwards said, only in-town sales can be listed on the official map.

According to Edwards, Norma's House will have a trailer on site, to haul off leftover donation items. Other non-profit organizations are asked to call and make arrangements to do the same.
