Mustangs, Lady Mustangs basketball earn all-district status

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs and Lady Mustangs took home all-district recognitions for their 2023-24 season.

--Mustangs—

The Mustangs finished the season with 14-17 record and finished fifth in District 26-3A with a 2-8 record.

First team all-district:

Senior Carl White (academic all-district) and senior Kade Dixon (academic all-district)

Second team all-district:

Senior Luke Moses (academic all-district)

Honorable mentions:

Junior Ryan Paez, sophomore Omar Abundis (academic all-district), junior Tristen Mikesh, and junior Aiden Flores

Academic all-district:

Junior Eduardo Betancourt and sophomore Zechariah Munoz

--Lady Mustangs—

The Lady Mustangs finished their season with a 9-26 record and finished third in District 26-3A with a 4-6 record.

Nixon-Smiley finished the season as bi-district finalist in the 3A UIL girls basketball playoffs.

Co-district newcomer of the year: freshman Grace Gomez

Co-district sixth man: Junior Madisen Yanes (academic all-district)

First team all-district:

Senior Kendall Amaya and junior Janaelyn White,

Second team all-district:

Senior Emmersyn Stone (academic all-district) and junior Ashly Garcia (academic all-district),

Honorable mentions:

Junior Kaylie Morin (academic all-district), sophomore Alize Davila and junior Juliana Kendrick
