Unemployment rose in Gonzales County in May 2023

Unemployment in Gonzales County rose by three-tenths of a percent in May 2023, according to state Labor Market Information (LMI) figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).

Unemployment in the county had been at 3.2 percent in April 2023, but the county saw that number move back up level with the 3.5 percent the county recorded in March 2023.

Gonzales County did not have the lowest jobless rate of the seven counties which comprise the Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area.

For the entire Golden Crescent Workforce Development Area, the unemployment rate for May 2023 was 3.8 percent, an increase of four-tenths of a percent but stil lower than the state average of 4.1 percent. This represented a total of 3,499 residents in Gonzales, Calhoun, DeWitt, Goliad, Jackson, Lavaca and Victoria counties seeking employment out of a total workforce of 91,660 people.

The counties in the Golden Crescent with the lowest unemployment rate were Calhoun at 3.3 percent, followed by DeWitt, Gonzales, Jackson and Lavaca counties all at 3.5 percent. Goliad County at 4.0 percent and Victoria County bringing up the rear at 4.2 percent.

For May 2023, there were 333 individuals in Gonzales County seeking employment out of a workforce of 9,419 with 9,086 reported as employed.
