The 2024-25 basketball season came to an end for the Gonzales Apaches on Tuesday, Feb. 18, following a 62-40 loss to the Pearsall Mavericks in a Division II bi-district matchup at Stockdale High School.

The Mavericks were going to be a tough task as they entered the game with a 24-10 record after having gone 8-4 in a loaded District 27-4A as the third-place team. Senior Xavier Rendon averaged more than 20 points per game and 11 rebounds, while getting support from Marcus Woodard and Jeremy Rodriguez, who each averaged more than 12 points per game.

Meanwhile, Gonzales was the second-place team overall in District 28-4A despite having an overall record of 14-17, thanks to a district mark of 5-3 with leadership from seniors Gavin Lekgega, Jermane Upshaw and Jzyah Melancon.

Unfortunately, the Apaches could not overcome Pearsall as they fell in the bi-district round in their return to the playoffs for the first time since the 2021-22 season. The Apaches close out the season with a 14-18 mark.
