The Gonzales Apaches got off to a rough start for the 2025 baseball season as they fell 15-4 to Cedar Creek in their home opener on Monday, Feb. 17.

The Eagles scored one in the first, six each in the third and fourth and two in the fifth inning before getting the run-rule victory. Gonzales managed to score two runs each in the fourth and fifth frames. The Apaches were not helped by committing nine errors in the game as they were slow to shake off the rust from last season.

Gonzales did get two hits each from Nathan Castillo and Brodi Ramos, who had a double and a stolen base, while Dallas Navejar had two RBIs. Overall, the Apaches managed seven hits.

Castillo took the loss as he allowed two unearned runs in two-thirds of an inning. Colt Robinson  allowed seven runs (three earned) in 2 1/3 innings, while Brodi Ramos allowed two unearned runs in one inning and Ckristofer Ramos allowed four runs (two earned) in a single inning. Gonzales pitchers walked nine and struck out seven and only five of the 15 runs scored by Cedar Creek were earned.

The Apaches will play host Smithville Thursday at the Tigers’ tournament and face the Lexington Eagles on Friday, Feb. 21, before coming home to play Flatonia on Feb. 24.
