Aurora Castro, 87, of Gonzales, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at The Heights of Gonzales in Gonzales.

Funeral services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales and were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gonzales with Dennis Darilek officiating. A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 19 with Deacon Alfonso Moreno officiating.

Aurora was born Aug. 29, 1926 in Gonzales. She was the daughter of Romero Gonzales and Josefa Ramos. On Sept. 3, 1944 she married Carlos Castro in Gonzales. Aurora was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Guadalupanas. Aurora enjoyed traveling to different places over the years. A favorite thing for Aurora was to travel to Mexico to go shopping, along with participating in various church activities.

Aurora is survived by two daughters, Lupe Carrizales and her husband, Jesse of Gonzales and Mary Macias and her husband, Joe of Luling; two granddaughters, Brenda Sanchez and husband David of Gonzales and Lisa Blackwell and husband Bryan of Gonzales; seven grandsons, Jesse Carrizales Jr. of Lockhart, Michael Castro and wife, Pam Pullin of Gonzales, Terrell Newton and wife, Amy of LaGrange, Joe Masias Jr. and wife, Sally of Elgin, Jeffrey Masias and wife, Amy of Plover, Wis., Mark Masias and wife, Liz of Plover, Wis., Eric Masias and wife, Vanessa of New Braunfels; 15 great-grandchildren, Daniel Sanchez, David Sanchez, Dylan Sanchez, Joseph Padilla, Klayton Blackwell, Landon Blackwell, Jaydon Blackwell, Preslee Castro, Tori Newton, Taylyn Newton, Eric Masias Jr., Haley Masias, Quintin Masias, Makaela Masias, Tory Mackey, Brianna Covington, Rodney Avery, Meagan Avery, Josh Avery, Chris Avery, Marishka Masias, Cruz Masias and Cendal Masias; seven great-great-grandchildren, Devan Padilla, Michael Padilla, Jordan Padilla, Janae Padilla, Tristan Sanchez, David L. Sanchez III., Kaleb Sanchez; and six great-great-great-grandchildren, Emma, Abbi, Wyatt, Travis, Caleb, Bryden.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carlos Castro; a daughter, Anita Newton; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Blackwell.
