'Food for all' feeds 1,100


Heaping helpings of items ranging from brisket,  sausage, pork steaks, chicken and ribs along with sides of beans and potato salad were served up during Jan. 30’s free “Food for All” at the Edward’s Community Center. 

Quincy Johnson,  one of the event’s organizers,  said it was held to feed and bring folks of the community together during these tough times. 

“We just wanted to give everyone we could a barbecue plate and wish them a blessed day,“Johnson said.  “Hopefully we could give people a day off from cooking and put smiles on their faces.”

Johnson added that around 1,100 plates were served, and that donations of nearly 600 pounds of canned food were collected and donated to Gonzales Christian Assistance Ministries, along with 150 pairs of socks which were given to local nursing homes.

The Edwards Association was unable to host its large luncheon it has held since 2003 following the annual Martin Luther King Jr.

So, it decided to host the drive-thru event featuring a barbecue plate made by local pit masters.
