GHS to break ground on surgical wing expansion

Gonzales Healthcare Systems is excited to break ground on their surgical wing expansion and inpatient room remodel project. Discussions of this project first began more than three years ago, and all the preparations have finally come together for this project to officially take off.

The hospital will be expanding its surgical area, creating a wing off the backside of the hospital, next to the current ambulance bay. This expansion boasts an addition of 12,000 square feet. The space will include three operating rooms with state-of-the-art equipment, including robot capabilities. A dedicated entrance will allow surgical patients to enter and leave easily and as comfortable as possible.

“With this expansion, we hope to provide a wider array of surgical services on top of what we currently offer now,” said Holly Danz, GHS director of marketing. “Our administration team has been actively working to recruit new surgical specialists to come to Gonzales and provide their services, allowing our residents to receive their care here at home, without having to travel out of town. After all, we pride ourselves on providing quality healthcare close to home. This project will allow us to continue to do just that.”

While construction begins on the expansion, Gonzales Healthcare Systems will simultaneously begin remodeling the inpatient rooms. While current inpatient layout offers some “community” style features, this remodel will allow for each inpatient room to have its own full ensuite bathroom, creating a more comfortable hospital stay.

“Patient care and satisfaction is our highest priority and these updated patient rooms will help enhance our patient’s overall experience with us,” Danz said.

An official groundbreaking will be held Thursday, Aug. 22 at 10:30a.m. behind the hospital, near the ambulance bay. All are welcome to attend and kick off this project. Work is slated to be complete late fall 2025.
