Parking closures for Come and Take It announced

Every year on the first full weekend in October, the community of Gonzales comes together to hold the annual Come and Take It Celebration which commemorates the first shot of the Texas Independence that happened on Oct. 2, 1835.

This three-day celebration fills the downtown with people, music, food, arts, and crafts, and other activities that mostly occur on or near the Independence, Texas Heroes and Courthouse Squares. This year’s Celebration will be held on Oct. 3-5, 2025.

In order to have such a successful event downtown, it requires cooperation from the citizens, business owners, and city leaders. In order to accomplish this, the Come Take It Celebration Committee has prepared a schedule of events which includes when various portions of the squares and streets will be closed.

They look forward to having your cooperation in helping them make this the best celebration in South Central Texas.
