GONZALES — The Gonzales Apaches delivered a commanding clean sweep over Needville on Tuesday, turning in dominant performances at both the junior varsity and varsity levels in a pair of lopsided victories.
Gonzales opened the night with a 6–1 win in junior varsity action before the varsity squad followed with an emphatic 8–0 shutout to complete the sweep.
In the JV match, Brayden Nicholes led the scoring surge with four goals, accounting for the majority of Gonzales’ offense. Diego Leon and Uriel Perez each added a goal to round out the Apaches’ six-goal night.
The varsity contest proved just as one-sided, as Gonzales overwhelmed Needville with eight unanswered goals while keeping the Blue Jays off the scoreboard entirely.
Brandon Duenez paced the varsity offense with three goals, while Jordan Ontiveros followed with a pair. Additional goals came from Braulio Plancia Hernandez, Michael Flores, and Christopher Gonzalez Avila, each finding the back of the net to help stretch the Apaches’ lead.
Goalkeeper Pablo Torres anchored the Gonzales defense, recording a clean sheet as the Apaches controlled possession and limited Needville’s scoring opportunities throughout the match.
Gonzales will continue its road stretch with matches Thursday, Jan. 8 and Saturday, Jan. 10 before returning home Friday, Jan. 16. The varsity squad currently sits at 1–1 on the season.
