Lady Apaches fall to Poth at home

The Gonzales Lady Apaches closed out their last game before the Thanksgiving break against the Poth Lady Pirates Tuesday, Nov. 26 at home.

The Lady Apaches fell to the Lady Pirates, 47-33, in a tough contest.

Lady Apache senior Bella Aguero scored 14 points against Poth and fellow senior Kilee Schwausch recorded 10 rebounds.

The Apaches struggled defensively, allowing Poth a 13-0 run late in the third quarter.

“Obviously, it was a very close game going to the half. If we can limit teams to make a run in the third, I think we'll be okay. But right now, it's just focusing on playing after the half and continuing to be warm and just kind of not give up too many runs in the third,” Aguero said.

Aguero added they want to continue to play defense and make more scoring runs than their opponents.

The Lady Apaches traveled to La Grange Tuesday, Dec. 3 for a match against the Leopards and the Navarro Tournament Thursday, Dec. 5, and Aguero hopes her team gets back on track before district.

“Gotta go back on our run again. Try to put us in the right direction with La Grange and, you know, contain them. They're a very good team and fast, but last year was a close game, and we’re looking to be a close game again this year, and then going into the tournament, just looking to get the experience, kind of get what we need to learn out of the way for district,” Aguero said.

The Lady Apache fell to La Grange on Tuesday, 40-36, and will kick off day one of the Navarro Tournament against Somerset and Corpus Christi King.
