Lady Mustangs fall to Karnes City in three sets

The Nixon-Smiley Lady Mustangs returned home for their third district match of the 2024 volleyball season against the Karnes City Lady Badgers Tuesday, Oct. 8.

The Lady Mustangs were swept by Karnes City in three sets (14-25, 17-25, 18-25).

Nixon-Smiley made some adjustments in the second and third sets and made the games closer for Karnes City.

“We had an injury that we were kind of adjusting to, one of our DS (defense specialist) is out at the moment, so we've been working on adjusting to that with a few practices that we've had since Friday, and we'll just continue to adjust when we move into the game against Goliad on Friday and then the second round [of district],” Head volleyball coach Loraine Yates said.

The Lady Mustangs will close out the first half of district play against the fifth-ranked Goliad Lady Tigers at home Friday, Oct. 11.

Yates and her team are pretty familiar with Goliad this season.

“We've already faced them, so we kind of know what they bring to the table. Our deal is just going to be making ourselves better on our side of the board and making sure that we're doing what we need to do to be as successful as we can,” Yates said.

The Goliad match starts at 4:30 p.m.
