Mustangs Improve to 3-0 in District with Win Over Karnes City
The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs Boys Basketball team stayed perfect in district play on Friday night, defeating the Karnes City Badgers 68-61 to move to 3-0 in district.
Nixon-Smiley was led by a huge offensive performance from Zechariah Munoz, who poured in 32 points, including nine three-pointers, to spark the Mustangs throughout the night. Henry Benavidez added 13 points, while Joe White chipped in 6 points along with strong all-around production.
Head Coach Jordan VanAuken was proud of the team’s grit in a hard-fought district battle.
“Tonight was a good win for the team. We struggled in some areas, but we battled and grinded the game out until the final whistle. You always enjoy playing competitive games like tonight. Zechariah played unbelievably offensively tonight, and we came together as a unit defensively in the second half. We will continue to take it one day at a time as we will start preparing for our game against Poth on Tuesday.”
The Mustangs fell to the Poth Pirates 68-61 in a tough game Tuesday night in Poth and now sit at 3-1 in district play. Nixon-Smiley will look to bounce back this Friday when they host Goliad at home.
