NIXON — The Nixon-Smiley Mustang Powerlifting program launched its fundraising for the 2026 season with a high-energy Lift-A-Thon on January 3, as athletes lifted for a cause and community members stepped up to support the Mustang lifters’ goals.
The annual event — hosted in partnership with the online fundraising platform Vertical Raise — invited friends, family, and local supporters to contribute to the powerlifting team’s fundraising campaign. According to the campaign page, the team set a group fundraising goal of $4,000 to help cover crucial expenses, including travel, competition entry fees, and other season-related costs.
During the Lift-A-Thon, Mustang powerlifters completed their three big lifts, squat, bench, and deadlift, while soliciting pledges and donations from sponsors and community members. Proceeds from the fundraiser are part of the team’s broader effort to build financial and competitive momentum ahead of a demanding 2026 season.
“Our annual Lift-A-Thon allows our athletes to shine — not just in the gym, but as representatives of our community,” said Athletic Director and Head Coach Paul Kirby. “Every dollar raised helps us ensure our lifters can compete at their best.”
Supporters were encouraged to visit the Mustang Powerlifting Vertical Raise page to donate or sponsor individual lifters. The campaign thanked early contributors, including local donors who helped push the total toward its goal during the first week.
In addition to monetary gifts, the team also sought corporate sponsors willing to donate $500 or more, with featured recognition across the Lift-A-Thon webpages.
As the Mustang Powerlifters prepare for the season ahead, fundraisers like the Lift-A-Thon remain critical to sustaining and growing the sport at Nixon-Smiley. With the community’s backing and athletes’ dedication, boosters are optimistic that the Mustangs will enter the 2026 season stronger than ever.
