Posted

NIXON — The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs closed out their regular season Tuesday night with a straight-set loss to Poth, finishing fourth in District 28-3A with a 4–6 district record and 13–20 overall.
The Mustangs now turn their focus to the postseason, where they’ll face Columbus in the bi-district round Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in Yoakum. Columbus enters the matchup with an impressive 37–4 record as the top seed from District 27-3A, while Nixon-Smiley looks to capitalize on its battle-tested district schedule.
District champion Goliad finished 10–0, followed by Stockdale (8–2) and Poth (6–4). Karnes City (1–8) and Luling (0–9) rounded out the standings.
Though the regular season ended on a tough note, the Mustangs’ resilience and teamwork have carried them this far. As they head into the playoffs, the group aims to extend their season with the same determination and grit that have defined their journey — ready to leave it all on the court when the first serve drops Thursday night.
