Nixon-Smiley Mustangs Opens With Statement Win, Turns Focus to Jourdanton Road Test

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs opened their 2025–26 boys basketball season with authority, rolling past Nordheim 61–21 in Friday night’s non-district matchup. Nixon-Smiley set the tone early with a 13–6 first-quarter lead and never looked back, stacking on 17 points in the second quarter and another 18 in the third. The Mustangs’ defensive pressure smothered the Pirates throughout the night, holding Nordheim to single digits in every period and allowing just 21 points overall.

With the season now underway, Nixon-Smiley shifts its focus to a busy stretch of early games. The Mustangs travel to Jourdanton on Nov. 25 for a 1:30 p.m. matchup, marking their first road test against a traditionally physical program. They return home on Dec. 2 to host Yorktown at 7:30 p.m., followed by a Dec. 5 meeting with Kenedy in tournament play with a rare 9 a.m. tipoff. The upcoming week will give the Mustangs multiple opportunities to build on their strong start and continue shaping their identity heading into December.
