Alvin Greathouse

Alvin Greathouse was born Aug. 8, 1969 to Bill Greathouse and Elvie Irene Johnson Greathouse in Victoria. He was called home on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015.

Alvin graduated from Stroman High School in 1988. After graduation he immediately enlisted into the United States Marine Corp. Alvin completed boot camp and graduated as Private First Class of the United States Marine Corp on June 1, 1989 in Twenty Nine Palms, California. He was trained as a Communication Specialist/Field Operator. He spent four years overseas in Japan, studying and taking numerous college courses.

Alvin also served in the Gulf War. He received an honorable discharge from the military in 1993.

He then attended the Victoria College Police Academy, graduating in 1998 and received the Top Driving Skills Award.

He moved to Gonzales and was hired by the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Department. He then transferred to the Gonzales City Police Department. After leaving the police department, he started in the oil field industry until his death.

Alvin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and savior and joined the St. James Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Victor Stevens and was baptized at Union Lea Baptist Church in 2003. Alvin loved riding horses and the rodeo. He was truly a cowboy. Also, he loved cooking and gardening.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted fiancee, LaShun Phillips; parents, Bill and Irene Greathouse; children, Jalen, Austin, Bill III, Jacqulyn, Jaen and Genesis; brother, Calvin (Tyrina); sisters, Burner Dean and Farrah Tenille (Ruben); and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and many friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gonzales.

Viewing is Friday, Oct. 30 from 1-7 p.m. at Harris Family Mortuary
