Apaches track teams find success at district meet

The Gonzales boys’ and girls’ track teams traveled to Cuero for the District 26-4A meet with multiple Lady Apaches advancing to the area round.

On the girls’ side, Ericka Hernandez came home with two gold medals while Haley Garza had a gold and silver medal at the meet.

Garza placed first in the 1600-meter race with her time of 5 minutes, 37.32 seconds. In the 3200-meter, she took second with her time of 12:32.87.

Meanwhile, Hernandez took first in the shot put with her distance of 41 feet, 7 inches. Her distance of 133-4 in the discus was good for first.

Other area qualifiers include Keaundra Cray who took third in the shot put competition with her toss of 36-6. In the pole vault, Ashleigh Haub took fourth in the pole vault with her distance of 9-6. Molly Barnick took fourth in the high jump with her distance of 5-0.

Shania Lloyd also qualified for area in the 100-meter run with her time of 13.25. Meanwhile in the 800-meter race, Blanca Hernandez advanced to area with her third-place finish of 2:32.94.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Hannah Rowland took third with her time of 50.65.

Other top athletes who didn’t advance to area includes Jesie Stowers who took eighth in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 18.34. Stowers also took fifth in the high jump with her jump of 4-8. Stowers was named an alternate in the high jump for the area meet.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Sylvia Hernandez took sixth with her time of 51.54.

In the relays, the 4x100-meter team took sixth with their time of 53.42, the 4x200-meter team took fifth with their time of 1:53.65 and the 4x400-meter team took sixth with their time of 4:24.87.

On the boys’ side, Elandreus Thorne took fifth in the 200-meters with his time of 23.12 seconds. He also took sixth in the long jump with his distance of 19 feet, 2 ¾ inches. The 4x200-meter relay team took fifth with their time of 1:33.29 while the 4x400-meter relay team took fifth as well, with their time of 3:35.13.
