Lady Apaches gets ready for run in playoffs

The Gonzales Lady Apaches closed out a historic season with a second place finish in district; now they set their eyes on the playoffs Friday, April 26 against Wimberley.

The Lady Apaches finished district with a 7-3 record in District 28-4A and will take on the Lady Texans who finished 5-5 in District 27-4A.

Gonzales is led by head coach Michelle Uribe, who, in her second year, turned the team around.

At bat, the Lady Apaches recorded 234 hits and recorded 166 RBIs; freshman first baseman Alexzis Hernandez leads the team with 28 RBIs and sophomore second baseman Ava Carrizales leads the team with 36 hits.

On the defense, the Lady Apaches fielders recorded 459 putouts total; senior Sydney McCray leads the team with 179 putouts.

On pitching, freshman pitcher Dixie Rea Lester stuck out 174 batters this season and leads the team.

On the Wimberley side, the Lady Texans recorded 218 hits and 139 RBIs for the 2024 season; senior Reese Adams leads the team with 35 hits and senior Juniper Daniel leads in the RBI category with 30.

The Lady Texans recorded 414 putouts with their fielders; Adams leads the team with 159 putouts.

Wimberley has two young pitchers, sophomore Charlotte Woodward and freshman Grace Stroble; Woodward leads the team with 62 strikeouts and Stroble is second with 33.

Both teams met early in the season in a tournament match, where the Lady Apaches beat Wimberley, 12-2.

The bi-district series is a best-of-three series and game one will be in Gonzales with a 6 p.m. start and games two (noon) and three (2 p.m., if needed) are in Wimberley, Saturday, April 27.
