Gonzales athletes receive top marks at rodeo

GONZALES — The Texas Youth Rodeo has been running this week and Gonzales County athletes have taken advantage of the home field advantage.

Sadie Thibodeaux, the Gonzales cowgirl who took on six events on Wednesday, is taken a few top spots in the first go.

In junior girls’ figure eight, Thibodeaux is in first with her time of 9.008 seconds, beating out Bellville’s Jayci Byler who was timed at 9.064. Thibodeaux also placed third in breakaway with her time of 3.610 seconds, behind Wharton’s Rylee Reina and Washington’s Ellie Meyer who were timed at 3.040 and 3.120, respectively.

In goat tying, Thibodeaux got third place with her time of 8.090 seconds. Taking first was Midway’s Kenzi Burleson with an impressive 6.820 seconds. Pleasanton’s Brentley Blalock was second with her time of 7.900 and Jourdanton’s Shyanne Bauerle took third with her time of 8.030.

Thibodeaux, with Rosanky’s Weston Wilhelm, took on ribbon roping and placed third with their time of 8.030 seconds. The team of Weimar’s Cash Duty and Needville’s Makenna Shook took first with a time of 5.350 followed by Needville’s Connor Atkinson and Sweeny’s Paisley Pierce who had 8 seconds flat.

In other events, Thibodeaux took 19th in cloverleaf with her time of 17.875 seconds, 18th in poles with her time of 26.466 seconds and no-timed in team roping.

Another Thibodeaux had some success in the first two days of rodeo.

Participating in the sub-junior girls’ category was Audrey Thibodeaux who took on figure eight, poles and cloverleaf.

Thibodeaux placed eighth in the figure eight event with her time of 9.546. Paige’s Mattie-Cash Mueller beat her out with a time of 9.506. Taking first was Van Vleck’s Kami Klepac, timed at 8.795.

In poles, Thibodeaux placed 14th with her time of 27.659. She also placed 21st in cloverleaf with her time of 24.083.

Also taking on the sub-junior girls’ events was Harwood’s Kenzie Stamps. Stamps placed seventh in the cloverleaf with her time of 17.639. Taking first was Cotulla’s London Gorham with a time of 16.648. Cuero’s Bailey Morrow took second with a time of 16.780.

Participating in the senior girls age group was Taylor Glass who took 15th in goat tying with a time of 9.670 seconds and 14th with Smithville’s Janson Dawson for ribbon roping, timed at 9.870 seconds.

Harwood’s Jasper Jeffrey took on senior boys as he placed 13th in the tiedown with his time of 14.050 seconds. He and Atascosa’s Sarah Haby no-timed ribbon roping.

Gonzales’ Kameron Glass took on bull riding Thursday night but results were unavailable before press time.
