Maness Ross Johnston

Maness Ross Johnston passed away peacefully on June 14, 2023 at the age of 85.  He was born on July 15, 1937 in McMahon, Texas to Joe Henderson Johnston and Myrl Joy Stephens.

He grew up near Lockhart and, as an adult, lived in Austin and Gonzales, Texas.  He served in the U.S. Army in Germany as a tank commander during the construction of the Berlin wall and patrolled the East-West border.

In his life, he was an electrician, a business owner and a country music singer, songwriter and fiddle player with several bands such as Texas Better Together.  Maness also was a talented artist who has many creations depicting nature using oil on canvas.  Maness was very in tune with nature and geology and, as a hobby, he spent many hours collecting petrified wood.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Richard Newell Johnston.

He is survived by his sons: Michael Steven Johnston and wife Stephanie of Austin and David Neil Johnston and wife Lisa of Lockhart; three granddaughters Marilena Goldenbaum, Katharina Goldenbaum and Johanna Johnston of Germany; two sisters Myrlene Jack of Elgin, TX and Bonnie Gay Baile of Georgetown, TX and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at the Saturn Cemetery.  Friends may sign the guestbook and leave condolences by visiting www.seydlerhillfuneralhome.com
